How to get Souls in Deadlock

Valve’s new game Deadlock has finally arrived, mashing together the hero-shooter genre with popular MOBA mechanics. One of the most important resources is Souls, a supernatural currency used to purchase items and unlock ability upgrades.

There are many different ways to collect Souls throughout a game, such as defeating enemies, scouring the jungle, or completing objectives. Here’s everything you need to know about collecting Souls in Deadlock.

How to farm Souls in Deadlock

Similar to other MOBAs, you can collect Souls by last-hitting minions in lane. Last hitting a minion or player means you deliver the killing blow, which instantly deposits Souls in your inventory. Defeating enemy players will earn you more Souls, especially if they have a lot of kills.

Deadlock does have incredibly important mechanics that allow you to double, or even triple, the Souls you collect from enemies. When you defeat a minion, player, or structure, they drop Green Soul Orbs that float in the air for several seconds. By shooting these orbs, you claim bonus Souls, doubling the money you earn.

E.g., if you defeat a minion and earn 20 Souls, a Soul Orb spawns. Shooting this will earn you another 20 Souls, which totals 40. If you don’t shoot the Orbs they’ll eventually expire and deposit the bonus into your inventory. However, floating Soul Orbs can be shot and claimed by any character, so enemies can steal the bonuses for themselves.

Whenever an enemy defeats a friendly minion or teammate, Orange Soul Orbs spawn. These Orange Orbs can be shot to deny the enemy their extra Souls, claiming them for yourself. Any Green Orb you see will appear as an Orange Orb to the enemy team (and vice versa).

As the game goes on, Green and Orange Soul Orbs will deliver larger amounts of Souls, making them important to claim before the enemy does.

How to collect the Soul Urn in Deadlock

Throughout a match of Deadlock, a Soul Urn will randomly spawn next to the Yellow or Purple lanes. This Urn can be collected and delivered to the opposite side of the map for a reward. Once the Urn’s picked up, the delivery location will automatically highlight in green when an ally holds the Soul Urn, or red if an enemy has the pot.

While holding the Soul Urn you run faster, but cannot use your basic attacks or any abilities. If the player holding the Urn is killed, it’ll drop on the ground and can be claimed by the enemy. You should always work together as a team to safely deliver or defend the Urn.

When you deposit the Urn, everyone on your team earns an equal amount of Souls instantly. The player that delivers the Urn receives 25 percent more Souls, and they can also destroy the deposited Urn to collect bonus currency.

What are Unsecured Souls in Deadlock?

Similar to other MOBA games, Deadlock has an area of the map players commonly refer to as the jungle. The map is inspired by New York City, but any area outside of a lane or base is considered part of the jungle. In these areas, camps of monsters give you Unsecured Souls.

Unsecured Souls function similarly to regular Souls and can be used to immediately purchase items that upgrade your character. However, Unsecured Souls will drop to the ground upon your death and can be claimed by teammates or enemies.

While you have Unsecured Souls, you’ll see a sphere hanging off your character’s hip. The Unsecured Souls will passively convert into regular Souls over time, which shrinks the size of the sphere. If you happen to die while holding this, it drops to the ground.

The best way to prevent the loss of Unsecured Souls is to immediately purchase expensive Deadlock items. This will consume both regular and Unsecured Souls, so you don’t have to worry about losing any extra currency if you die.
