Team Dignitas will not be fielding its Danish Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster in 2017, and will instead be focusing on establishing a North American team.

The roster won one of the biggest events of the year in EPICENTER, where the Danish squad took home a total of $250,000, making the former Dignitas lineup one of the most successful European teams of the year.

According to Dignitas’ official press release, both the organization and the roster agreed to mutually part ways. Now, Dignitas and its parent company the Philadelphia 76ers are looking to establish an elite North American CS:GO division.

“Team Dignitas and the Philadelphia 76ers are committed to building our next elite, international Counter Strike: Global Offensive team based in North America with the goal of dominating the global competitive gaming landscape,” the press release reads.

The timing of this announcement comes just one day after the former Dignitas squad qualified for Valve’s upcoming Major, hosted by ELEAGUE between Jan. 22-29. According to Valve’s own regulations, this means Dignitas will not be represented at the $1 million event, as players hold ownership over the spots in the tournament, not teams.

It’s hard to imagine that the Danish roster will go team-less for long given their success throughout the year, the real concern should instead be focused on Dignitas, as North American CS:GO still seems to have a lot of catching up to do with Europe in terms of success.
