Legendary Counter-Strike team Ninjas in Pyjamas now has their own anthem.
German DJ Honka, a self professed Counter-Strike fan, put together a piece celebrating his favorite team. After wearing a Ninjas in Pyjamas jersey to a festival, the team contacted him and a collaboration was born.
The track, titled “Who We Are” (available on iTunes and Spotify), mixes iconic Counter-Strike sound effects like the gentle clicking of zooming in with the Arctic Warfare Police (AWP) sniper rifle and the beeping bomb timer with a chorus chanting “Ninjas in Pyjamas.”
“In traditional sports, I’ve always thought the songs that get played when teams enter the field are amazing ,” Honka told website 27in1. “They get the crowd pumped up and really add to the atmosphere of the event. This is something I feel like we’ve been lacking so far in CS, so I was happy to make a track like this.”
The chill pace of the piece better mirrors other esports-themed electronica like the classic Basshunter tune “Dota” than a Michael Buffer-esque pump-up jam, though the chorus sounds like a cheer straight from European football.
