After over a month of competition, we now know the two new teams competing in the League of Legends European Challenger Series.
French squad Millenium qualified for the upcoming League Challenger Series yesterday, while Team Huma, captained by former Team SoloMid star Lucas “Santorin” Larsen, earned their spot today via the Challenger Series qualifier. Both squads will be replacing Overclockers UK and Ex Nihilo, who participated in the 2015 Summer Challenger Series.
Both teams qualified through the open Europe West qualifier, with Millenium beating Huma in the final. Thanks to the way the bracket worked, both teams qualified for the next stage: a qualifier with national teams from Spain, Poland, and Germany, as well as Europe Nordic and East (EUNE) squads and teams that had acquired the spots of Overclockers UK and Ex Nihilo.
Millenium took down two amateur squads of major League Championship Series (LCS) organizations, GIANTS! Gaming Underdoges and Renegades: Banditos in the upper side of the bracket. Meanwhile, Huma took down EUNE team Wonder Stag e-Sports, Slow and Furious, and finally Illuminar Honor Gaming today.
Long-time fans of League of Legends know Millenium very well. The organization formerly had a high level European squad that competed in Intel Extreme Masters events and the 2014 LCS. They were eliminated from the LCS in the summer of 2014 and have since competed with several amateur squads.
Millenium and Huma will meet their next opponents in just under a week with the beginning of the Challenger Series. Other teams competing include SK Gaming, Copenhagen Wolves, mousesports, and Inspire Esports.
