There might be three games left of the EU League Championship Series (LCS) Spring Split, but the six teams who will go forward to the playoffs have already been decided.
2015 World Championship semifinalists Origen and Fnatic claimed the last two spots, joining G2 Esports, H2k-Gaming, Vitality, and Unicorns of Love who all qualified two weeks ago.
Origen managed to defeat the Unicorns in a game that featured the return of owner Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño Martínez to the midlane substituting for Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage. XPeke, who was subbing for Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, only had a day of practice with the team. But that didn’t stop him from contributing. Though the game was almost level on kills, the Unicorns failed to convert that into towers.
Fnatic had a relatively easy time against bottom of the table Giants Gaming, only giving up two kills against the Spanish strugglers. Midlaner Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten scored eight kills with no deaths.
At the top of the table G2 Esports overcame rival Vitality to gain a slight edge in the race for the top two spots. The two best teams from the season will receive byes to the playoff semifinals.
With the playoff race concluded, attention turns to the bottom of the table where four teams are competing for just one guaranteed spot in the Summer Split. The three bottom teams will have to put their LCS futures on the line in the Summer Promotion tournament.
Splyce is currently in the driver’s seat for the all important seventh spot, after defeating rivals Elements yesterday to put them one win ahead of that side, two ahead of Roccat and three ahead of Giants. If Giants lose to G2 today, they will be unable to reach safety.
