God of War Ragnarök getting mixed reviews on Steam following PC launch due to one frustrating requirement

Multiple accounts for one game is not going over well.

The critically acclaimed PlayStation action game God of War Ragnarök is now available to play on PC, but not everyone is happy with it right now.

Despite being one of the most played and beloved games of 2022, the Steam page for God of War Ragnarök opened up to mixed reviews—and it’s because of a frustrating requirement Sony continues to enforce despite it’s low popularity. When the PC port of the game was announced several months ago, it was revealed that having a PlayStation Network account would be required to play the game. This didn’t go over well for other PlayStation games on PC such as Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2, with the latter’s requirement being so unpopular that Sony had to backtrack. You’d think that debacle would lead to Sony learning a valuable lesson, but now the Steam page for the game is filled with negative votes specifically calling out Sony for continuing this practice.

A lot of the reviews include people lamenting having to create a third-party account they feel they do not need, or reactivating an old PSN account they haven’t used in a long time. And when you add in PSN server problems and cumbersome steps required to create an account in the first place, you get a lot of frustrated gamers on your hand.

But the PSN account requirement wasn’t the only negative thing on gamers’ minds. Though not as frequent, reviewers are also frustrated with the game’s performance. Many cited issues with resolution and UI, and even some crashes have been reported.

It’s a shame one of the best single-player games in Sony’s catalog isn’t living up to expectations due to both technical issues and unpopular business practices. And if this trend continues, this could spell bad news for future PC ports.
