How to get SAM ore in Satisfactory

....or make an alien friend fetch it for you.

Ore mining is one of the most crucial aspects of Satisfactory, as each ore is used to create new machines, tools, and even vehicles. However, one ore strands out from the rest: SAM. So, here’s everything about SAM ore, including how to get it.

Satisfactory recently had its full release on Epic Games and Steam, with tons of new players joining the game and existing ones exploring the latest features added to it. The game continues to reach new player count highs, with the latest all-time peak sitting at more than 120k players.

With so many new players coming in and returning ones getting back into the loop, a refresher in the game’s mechanics, tools, and machinery might not be the worst idea, starting with the intriguing SAM ore.

You can get SAM ore by mining it by hand or placing down miners on a resource node. If you’re mining by hand, press E to start the harvesting process. Portable Miners can also be used. Additionally, if you’ve successfully tamed a Lizard Doggo, they can fetch some SAM ore for you occasionally. You can tame these adorable creatures using Paleberries.

You can find small deposits of SAM ore around the map alongside resource nodes similar to other ores in the game.

While we don’t know when this resource will get further usage in Satisfactory, Coffee Stain Studios has previously stated that the resource will “mostly be used by players nearing the end of the game to solve problems around their factories they might not want to deal with as much at that point.”

What is SAM ore in Satisfactory?

SAM ore is among the rarest ores in Satisfactory. SAM is an abbreviation for “Strange Alien Metal,” and, funnily enough, the ore has no uses in the game right now. While it has nodes just like other ores and can be detected, identified, mined, and stored, there is no further purpose to it.

The reason for this is that SAM ore is linked to the upcoming story elements of Satisfactory, which are yet to be put in place. For now, we do know that the ore will be a MAM resource. MAM is another abbreviation for “Molecular Analysis Machine.” So, all players can do is wait to see what purpose this ore will serve in the game’s narrative.
