Concord has been in freefall since its release, and a recent report has highlighted just how bad things have been, with the alleged sales figures failing to even clear Liechtenstein’s popuation.
According to a recent IGN report citing several named sources, Concord has had astronomically low sales. In the article, analyst Simon Carless, who writes the GameDiscover.co newsletter, stated that Concord‘s total sales are currently about 10,000 units on Steam and about 15,000 on PlayStation 5.
These numbers reflect the game’s minuscule player base, which is shocking for a Sony first-party title. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, who cites Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, claims Concord ranked 147th among PlayStation 5’s daily active players across all titles in the United States.
What’s more, Omdia principal analyst Liam Deane claims that the Steam numbers are “so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side, we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly.”
Several analysts also claim that the game’s failure can be attributed to awful marketing, which didn’t help it stand out in an already saturated market. Piscatella claimed that it suffered from “low awareness and purchase intent among video game players,” and Midia Research analyst Rhys Elliott added that while the game is fun to play, “sadly, making a fun, high-quality shooter is not enough in the oversaturated live-service space these days.”
Concord has been struggling since launch, as it released on Aug. 23 to just over 600 concurrent players on Steam. This number has rapidly declined to below 100 players since then and stayed there for several days. Concord had such little interest at launch, in fact, that the game had fewer concurrent players on Steam than one of 2023’s most hated and critically bashed games, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which launched to 758 interested masochists.
While numbers cited by analysts have yet to be officially confirmed, Concord’s failures and negative public reception don’t bode well for its future. So far, it has shown no signs of breaking through in its already saturated field. This is especially unfortunate, as the title had a rumored budget of about $100 million, which has done little for it. Its asking price of $40 also doesn’t help its chances, as many of its competitors are free-to-play and already have a large player base.
