Dragonite is the star of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s latest seven-star Tera Raid event, so you better keep an eye out for opportunities to challenge and catch it.
From Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7pm CT to Sunday, Sept. 1 at 6:59pm CT, seven-star Dragonite Tera Raids will pop up around Paldea. This Gen I dragon has the Normal Tera Type and exclusive Mightiest Mark, making it a strong and valuable event Pokémon to add to your collection.
Here’s everything you need to know about Dragonite and its Unrivaled Tera Raid event in Scarlet and Violet.
How to find Unrivaled Dragonite Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
To cause the Unrivaled Dragonite Tera Raids to spawn on your map, you must first unlock seven-star Tera Raids. After that, follow these steps to challenge the raid:
- During the event period, connect to the internet and make sure your Poké Portal News is up to date.
- Open up your Paldea map and look for the black Tera Raid icon with the Normal Tera Type symbol. Select that as your destination. If you can’t find it anywhere on your map, restart your game, reconnect to the internet, and try again.
- Fly to a nearby Pokémon Center or landmark and follow the orange flag on your mini-map until you arrive at the Tera Raid den.
- Interact with the black crystal to make sure it’s a seven-star raid with Dragonite’s silhouette.
- You may also find and join online group raids by using the Tera Raid Battle Search feature in the Poké Portal. This requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
How to catch Dragonite in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Despite having the elite Powerhouse Pokémon title, Dragonite isn’t too hard to obtain in Scarlet and Violet. In fact, if you just head to Casseroya Lake in the northern part of Paldea, you can encounter wild Dragonite as well as its pre-evolutions, Dragonair and Dratini. It can also be found in the wild in North Province Area Two or random five- or six-star Tera Raids if you’re lucky.
If you specifically want to catch the Unrivaled Dragonite with the Mightiest Mark, you must beat the seven-star Tera Raid while it’s still around. Since it has the Normal Tera Type, you’ll need a strong counter with access to Fighting-type moves to hit it for super-effective damage. Once you defeat it, you’re guaranteed to catch it in one try with any Poké Ball.
Can you catch more than one Dragonite in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Unrivaled Tera Raid event?
You are limited to catching only one Dragonite with the Mightiest Mark for the Unrivaled Tera Raid event. You can rechallenge the raid multiple times during the event to earn more rewards, but the game won’t let you throw another Poké Ball at it to catch another one with the exclusive mark.
If you really need to get your hands on another Dragonite, just breed for one or hunt one down in the wild. Your other options would be to trade with a fellow trainer or transfer a Dragonite over from another game via Pokémon HOME.
What is the best Nature for Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite are Powerhouse Pokémon, aka pseudo-Legendaries, meaning they have an impressive base stat total of 600 when fully evolved. All of Dragonite’s individual stats are quite good, but it especially excels in physical Attack. That’s why the best Nature for it is Adamant (+ Attack, – Special Attack).
For the most part, Dragonite is built to be a hardcore physical attacker with the Adamant nature and Choice Band item both boosting its Attack stat. From there, it can lock itself into strong physical attacks like Outrage, Extreme Speed, or Stomping Tantrum. Just like the Unrivaled Dragonite from the seven-star raid event, the Gen I dragon thrives with the Normal Tera Type to further boost its Extreme Speed with extra priority to strike first.
Alternatively, you could also try a bulkier Dragonite build with an Impish (+ Defense, – Special Attack) or Careful (+ Special Defense, – Special Attack) nature. If you go this route, drop the Choice Band and instead set up with Dragon Dance before attacking.
