Season 22 introduces akimbo weapons to Apex Legends

"Say hello to my little friend's little friend."

The last new weapon added to Apex Legends was the Nemesis back in season 16. Since then, we’ve seen reworks, nerfs, buffs, and switches in and out of the supply drop for each season. But the newest addition for season 22 introduces an entirely new weapon type: the akimbo.

Perhaps best known for its aggressive playstyle in Call of Duty: Warzone, akimbo (dual-wielded) weapons can be absolutely lethal and a right nuisance in the right hands. Announced in the official Apex Legends Shockwave gameplay trailer and on EA.com, Apex‘s akimbo weapons are set to drop alongside the new Revival Mode and the highly-anticipated aim assist nerfs.

This new feature will be added exclusively to the P2020 and Mozambique on Aug. 6. Each bullet will be strengthened as you deal double damage by firing both weapons at the same time. Aiming down sights won’t be available for the akimbo weapons, however. Rather, as bullets fire using the standard trigger, aiming in will tighten the spread rather than scope inwards. Optics aren’t needed for the akimbo either, but you can swap fire rate to holster one pistol.

The akimbo function won’t behave like a hop-up either, letting you utilize dual pistols simply by picking up another P2020 or Mozambique while already having one equipped. You cannot dual-wield a P2020 and Mozambique at the same time.

With the Digital Threat no longer in play and Wingman bullets being limited to its standard magazine, the Havoc will likely continue to reign supreme in season 22. As shotguns remain a thing of the past, lost inside the depths of Apex‘s history (alongside Gibraltar and his bubble), akimbo weapons may become the go-to secondary for fast-paced Legends with aggressive playstyles.
