Hockey Hall of Famer and Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano has joined the
ownership group of Tiidal Gaming, an esports platform company and the parent company of Lazarus Esports, the organization announced late last week.
Modano, who holds the National Hockey League (NHL) records for most points in both the regular season and postseason by an American-born player, will also serve as a brand ambassador for Lazarus. Modano played 21 years in the NHL, from 1989 to 2011, bringing Dallas its only Stanley Cup in 1999. He still holds many of the franchise’s records.
“I am excited to join the fantastic team at Tiidal Gaming,” said Modano in a press release. “The explosive growth in esports, and the broader impact of gaming on entertainment is remarkable. When considering the engagement levels, shifting attention of younger demographics and the global nature of the space, it is impressive and cannot be ignored.”
Formerly known as SetToDestroyX, Lazarus has forged itself as a formidable multi-gaming esports organization based out of Canada. The team is most well known for its all-female Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team it signed in November 2018 following their rebrand.
Lazarus also fields a men’s CS:GO team along with a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds roster. Players for solo games like Brawlhallai, Fortnite, and Hearthstone are also signed to the team’s roster.
Tiidal is working to expand into more esports titles throughout 2019, with the organization planning to announce more moves later in the year.
