Apex Legends devs are “currently not pursuing” reconnect feature

We won't be able to rejoin our Apex Legends games any time soon.

Every Apex Legends player has gone through the frustration of getting disconnected from matches randomly and then not being able to rejoin their friends in-game. Unfortunately, it looks like the developers at Respawn Entertainment are not planning to implement a reconnect option any time soon.

Respawn posted an update on the state of the game on the Apex Legends subreddit. Jay “JayFresh” Frechette, the community manager for Respawn, has said that the dev team is “currently not pursuing” a reconnect feature.

One reason that he gave was that a reconnect feature opened up more risk for people to abuse the system. The second reason was that they think the resources needed to build the reconnect system would be better spent on fixing stability so that the feature isn’t necessary in the first place.

These reasons were not enough to sway public opinion, however. Many people noted that there were multiple battle royale games with a reconnect feature, and they worked out fine. Additionally, there are many different reasons for people needing a reconnect feature, such as connectivity issues.

Speaking of which, crashing has been a huge problem for Apex Legends, ever since its release last month. Five days ago, Respawn released a patch fixing several script errors that caused players to randomly disconnect. Disconnects have affected almost everyone in their player base, so the community outrage on the lack of a reconnect option is understandable.
