XDefiant season 2 adds new faction, weapons, maps, mode, and private matches

The gang from Far Cry: New Dawn invades.

XDefiant’s “massive” season two is coming soon, and Ubisoft has revealed everything that’s coming with it, including a new playable faction in Far Cry: New Dawn’s Highwaymen.

The Highwaymen are from the post-apocalyptic world of the Far Cry 5 spin-off, and as such, they have unique gadgets like a Scrap Turret and Saw Launcher. Described as “cocky and lethal,” they’re perfect for aggressive, run-and-gun play.

The Highwaymen passive, Revved, increases your fire rate and reload speed as you pick up kills, while their abilities are the Scrap Turret and M79 grenade launcher. The turret is deployed and fires at enemies with a 360-degree range, while the grenade launcher gets two shots and is self-explanatory.

The Saw Launcher is the Highwaymen’s ultra ability. It launches buzzsaw blades that ricochet off walls, bounce around, and take out enemies in the area. This makes them great for clearing out campers who are set up in a small area.

Finally, in season two, the anticipated Bomb mode is coming. It’s basically Call of Duty‘s Search and Destroy mode, where teams have no respawns, while one team attacks and one must defend.

The battle pass for season two includes three new weapons in the PP19 SMG, L82 LMG, and SPAS-12 shotgun, so there’s a good amount of variety for different playstyles within the new tools of terror.

XDefiant season two will also bring private matches, which has been a big request since the game’s launch. Players can use the feature to try out season two’s three new maps: Waterfront, Signal, and Air & Space.

Ubisoft also unveiled an updated version of XDefiant’s year one road map, teasing everything else in seasons three and four. Season two will receive a three-hour play test this upcoming weekend and be fully released on Sept. 24.
