So you’ve got quite a bit of Primogems or Intertwined Fates with you, and you are looking at the Genshin Impact’s 5.0 patch, in which the second phase of the 5-star character banner has begun.
You have two options: Go for the tried and tested, one of the best and important characters in the game gameplay and even lore-wise: the Inazuma’s Electro Archon, Raiden Shogun herself.
OR, you can go for Kinich, a new unit in the game from Natlan who is perhaps one of the most unique characters in terms of presentation and kit’s visuals because of the 8-bit retro graphic vibe that he has going on. So let’s take a look at which character could be worth those Primos.
Why you might want to pull for Kinich
Kinich has already seen some hype behind him for his kit, like I said, but gameplay-wise, he is a Dendro DPS that uses the Claymore weapon. Since he’s from Natlan, he can enter Nightsoul’s Blessing.
If you’ve watched the trailer or tried out the character in the in-game trial, you’ll see that his Elemental Skill is pretty cool – it lets you attach a grappling hook to enemies to attack. Or you can swing mid-air if there’s no enemy.
He attacks using his Skill by looping around the target and dealing Dendro DMG, generating Nightsoul points. Once there are max points, he uses the Scalespiker Cannon which does Nightsoul-aligned Dendro DMG.
As for Kinich’s Elemental Burst, he brings forth the power of an 8bit version of his sidekick Ajaw, who stays on the field and deals AoE Dendro DMG.
Why you may want to stick with Raiden Shogun
Raiden Shogun, on the other hand, is a character who hardly needs an introduction. She’s a strong DPS unit that relies on Energy Recharge and can use her ultimate quite quickly as she generates a lot of particles.
Raiden is also flexible, as she can be used as a Hyperbloom unit in a Dendro team, because of her high particle generation.
If you already have Raiden, then getting her to C2 gives her a huge spike, as it ignores 60% of opponent’s DEF, when using her ult.
Genshin Impact also has a great F2P friendly weapon for her, called “The Catch” that you can get multiple copies of to R5 by fishing in the game.
Time to decide
The second-half banners of Genshin Impact version 5.0 will be available from September 17 to October 9, 2024. This gives you plenty of time to consider your options.
If you’re a fan of unique characters with unconventional playstyles, Kinich is worth the investment. However, if you prefer a tried-and-tested powerhouse who fits well into various team compositions, Raiden Shogun remains a strong choice.
