All Spells in Black Myth Wukong and how to get them

There’s more to it than hitting bosses with a giant stick.

As fun as it is fighting with your magical staff, you aren’t limited to physical combat in Black Myth Wukong. The Destined One also has magical abilities through the use of spells, all of which serve a purpose and have a specific use during combat.

In the Black Myth Wukong intro, you’re given access to fully upgraded versions of spells while battling Erlang, and some of them are totally badass. Then, they’re ripped away from you as you begin your quest anew—but don’t worry, you’ll have your hands on the spells again after a short while. Here’s how to get them back.

Here’s a list of all spells in Black Myth Wukong, their effects, and where you need to go to unlock them. We’re still uncovering a few of these, so check back soon for a fully updated list. This list won’t include Transformation Spells.

SpellTypeEffectHow to unlock
ImmobilizeMysticismFreeze a target enemy in place, canceling their attacks. The tougher the enemy, the less time they spend frozen.Given during the fight against the Bullguard.
Cloud StepAlterationGo invisible for a short duration, disappearing into the mist and leaving behind a decoy. Use a Light Attack while invisible to make an Unveiling Strike, staggering an enemy and gaining considerable Focus.Defeat the Black Wind King in the Black Wind Cave Interior in Chapter One.
Rock SolidAlterationTurn your body to stone, granting you a short moment of invincibility and parrying an attack if timed correctly, staggering the opponent.Defeat the Tiger Vanguard at Crouching Tiger Temple in Chapter Two.
A Pluck of ManyStrandSummon a group of illusions that attack alongside you. These illusions can take the aggro of a target, but most will die after taking a little damage.Receive from the Headless Monk once you reach the Windseal Gate in Chapter Two.
Ring of FireMysticismCreates a small ring of flame on the ground, granting you health and stamina as long as you remain within the circle. Defeat the Macaque Chief for the second time in Chapter Three.
Spell BinderMysticismDisables the use of Spells, Vessels, Transformations, and Soul Skills, but greatly enhances weapon and melee damage.Complete the Treasure Hunter quest in Chapter Three.

Each spell type (Mysticism, Alteration, Strand, and Transformation) can hold one spell at a time, so you’ll need to pick and choose which one you want equipped. Note the cooldown and mana cost of each spell; in the early game, mana regeneration is basically zero, so be sure to monitor your total mana as battles draw on so you don’t get caught out.

Once equipped, you can spend Spark points to level up spells in Black Myth Wukong, enhancing them and granting extra bonuses. For example, the Ironclad upgrade for Rock Solid gives a boost to defense after making a successful parry or the Spirit Shards upgrade for Immobilize refunds mana used if the enemy is frozen mid-attack.

Be sure to explore each spell’s skill tree. It’ll cost you Spark to upgrade each—Spark that could be spent on boosting health, stamina, or bettering your attack stance. I’d definitely invest a few points in leveling up Immobilize early given it’s arguably the most powerful spell, then pick and choose on a spell-by-spell basis afterward.
