On June 18, Splyce released two members of its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster. Now, only three days later, one of those players has returned—but in a different role.

Andrew “Professor_Chaos” Heintz will now be working with his former teammates as a coach. Heintz played on the Splyce roster for roughly six months, after signing with the organization on Dec. 30 last year.

While Professor_Chaos is well known in the North American competitive scene, critics often pointed to his relatively poor individual skill on the international level. Still, with Professor_Chaos Splyce in tow, the team made it to the MLG Columbus major earlier this year after a miracle run through the tournament’s offline qualifier.

The roster’s victories against Counter Logic Gaming and Vexed secured them a spot at MLG Columbus in March. In contrast to their run in the qualifiers, however, Splyce was then pitted against elite European opposition. Fnatic and FaZe Clan quickly ended North America’s Cinderella story, and the team ended up finishing in last place.

At the recent ESL One Cologne qualifiers, Splyce attempted to repeat their performance at the previous major qualifiers. This time their story had a more abrupt ending, as they only managed to win one out of four games.

With Professor_Chaos back in the fold, the question now becomes what the roster he will be coaching will look like. The organization has also announced it will be holding tryouts in order to find replacements for Professor_Chaos and Abraham “abE” Fasli, the other player the organization released on June 18.
