Aberration in Ark Survival Ascended introduced some new mechanics to the game alongside a bunch of new creatures. The methods for obtaining resources like Oil are different from those in other maps like Scorched Earth or The Center.

They won’t take too long to get used to, however, and we’ve detailed the process for getting Oil on Aberration below.

While you can obtain Oil using the normal method of harvesting Oil Nodes with a pickaxe or a creature like an ankylosaurus, Oil Nodes in Aberration are found on the surface or deep in the Red Zone, which is an area difficult to get to and full of danger.

The dangers at the surface include the Reaper King and scorching temperatures during the daytime, while the Red Zone is full of Rock Drakes and Radiation. As such, harvesting Oil from these areas is not advised unless you are suitably protected.

Instead, the best way to get Oil in Aberration is by killing Trilobites or taming a Dung Beetle. Trilobites are found near bodies of water and are easy to kill, though taming a Dung Beetle is the best method as it provides more Oil.

If you’re early in your progress on Aberration, start by focusing on killing Trilobites to get the Oil you need, but make taming a Dung Beetle a priority. Unlike other maps where Dung Beetles are only found in caves, they are common in Aberration in the Blue Zone and the Purple Zone.
