5. Tiger’s Acolyte

In terms of sheer damage and the passive buff, the Tiger’s Acolyte Spirit, unlocked after defeating a boss of the same name in Chapter Two, is a fantastic choice for all kinds of builds. The Spirit grants a swift and heavy-hitting slash that also sports a solid range, allowing you to use it from a safe distance, which is then closed with the slash itself. It can also stagger many bosses and enemies, though some of the other entries on this list are better in that regard.

The Tiger’s Acolyte passively boosts your Critical Strike Damage by a flat six percent. This might seem insignificant at first, but when stacked with other effects and upgrades, your crits become incredibly powerful and give you that extra edge in combat.

4. Misty Cloud, Cloudy Mist

Unlocked in Chapter Five after a unique gank boss, the Misty Cloud, Cloudy Mist Spirit gives you a fantastic combat tool with a lot of guaranteed damage. You initially take one form that is slow but hits hard, and then another spawns behind the enemy to shoot lasers, dealing solid damage almost 100 percent of the time. Spirits usually have this problem of your not being able to cast them effectively, and this one generally solves that.

In terms of passive bonuses, this Spirit reduces the Mana cost of Cloud Step, so if you’re using this ability regularly, you might want to equip this Spirit during boss fights to give you an extra edge with its damage output and the Cloud Step buff.

3. Gore-Eye Daoist

For those who love to get up close and personal with the bosses they encounter, the Gore-Eyed Daoist is the perfect choice of Spirit. With the staff he grants you, your damage output is moderately buffed so long as you remain near it. It does disappear after a while, but the damage boost it gives is significant enough to make a drastic difference, especially against healthy opponents.

Its passive also helps you with spell management as it grants 10 extra Mana, an amount nearly equal to a crafted Celestial Medicine. Though it might appear insignificant, it is particularly useful if you do not use a Gourd Drink that grants Mana restoration with each sip and constantly runs out.

2. Commander Beetle

Now, when talking about raw damage output, Commander Beetle is nearly unmatched. It executes quickly, can stagger most bosses, and does a tremendous amount of damage on top. It’s unlocked in the early parts of Chapter 4, and the fight itself isn’t that difficult, so obtaining it is no big deal. This Spirit is also great against flocks of enemies. Its massive AOE sweep can be tremendously helpful in situations where you’re surrounded by opponents with no clear way out.

Its passive is very case-specific as it merely grants Poison Resistance, though, for builds that employ the use of the Poisoned State, this buff might prove very useful.

1. Wandering Wight

The boss that everyone struggles with once they boot up Black Myth: Wukong also happens to give the most useful Spirit. Who would’ve thought? Its active ability lets you embody the Wandering Wight and smash enemies with its massive head to do, well, massive damage. The AOE is also pretty good, and the stagger can apply to nearly every boss in the game, which can be quite the game-changer in certain situations.

And don’t even get me started on the passive. A whopping 20 defense boost passively is incredible and will help you a ton throughout your playthrough. Celestial Medicine grants a meager five defense points per pill, and those Mind Cores aren’t easy to come by, while the Wight blesses you with 20 at the low cost of losing your mind when fighting him.
