Ubisoft adds another Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed crossover hint
Warning: Easter egg spoilers feature below
For the longest time, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs fans have speculated that the two Ubisoft series take place in the same universe. And now that Assassin's Creed Origins is out, players have found yet another clue connecting Ubisoft's flagship open-world action-adventure titles together. Minor plot details and easter egg spoilers follow below for both Watch Dogs 1, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and Assassin's Creed: Origins.
In Assassin's Creed Origins, players can check out a laptop with a CCTV photograph showing Watch Dogs protagonist Aiden Pearce standing above Abstergo Entertainment CEO Olivier Garneau's corpse. In the original Watch Dogs, players could assassinate Garneau in a side mission, linking Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs together.
As Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag fans know, Garneau originally featured in Black Flag and subsequently went missing after visiting Chicago, which falls neatly in line with Watch Dogs' side mission. But Ubisoft Montreal narrative director Darby McDevitt has since called Garneau's appearance in Watch Dogs "my little joke" after the game's development team asked for a "tiny crossover idea."
As of yet, Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed do not officially take place in the same universe. Yet McDevitt also said that "nobody knows for sure" what happened to Garneau, so there's still the possibility that Watch Dogs' crossover fan theory with Assassin's Creed will become canon. Either way, pick up Assassin's Creed Origins for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One to check out Ubisoft's ongoing link between the two game worlds.
