Super Mario Cereal is real, and it's coming to stores in the US soon
Get ready to pour yourself a bowl of Super Mario Cereal and chow down on Mario-themed oats and marshmallows. Cereal maker Kellogg’s is bringing the colorful cereal to the US.
The company confirmed the sugary treat’s existence to a reader at cereal enthusiast blog Cerealously after a rumors flew around the internet touting a possible Super Mario Cereal listed at Target via Brickseek.
"We cerealously appreciate your continued interest in seeing a Nintendo cereal," Kellogg's commented. “We hope you'll keep an eye out for the new Super Mario Cereal that is hitting store shelves now. This star-shaped cereal features Super Mario-inspired marshmallows, and a limited number of packages will have an Amiibo powerup sticker that can be used on the Super Mario Odyssey game with the Nintendo Switch gaming console."
The cereal comes in a colorful box featuring Mario and Cappy and a front panel proudly proclaiming that the box itself functions as an amiibo. Obviously, amiibo functionality is usually released to figures, but Nintendo does still sell packs of amiibo cards as well, which is related to how the cereal box will likely work. You don’t need much cardboard to slap an NFC chip on. The box suggests trying the amiibo function out with Super Mario Odyssey, though nothing has been confirmed as to what it unlocks in-game just yet.
Either way, it looks like breakfast is about to get a whole more powerful. Just don’t expect the mushroom marshmallows to give you extra lives or anything.
