Skyrim Special Edition is free this weekend on Xbox and Steam

Steam and Xbox are both hosting sales on the game for any interested players.

There's some good news for any Skyrim fans eager to try out the remastered version of this game. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is free on Steam and Xbox this weekend, with a special discount on both platforms during the free trial.

Steam's free weekend offer, which was officially announced on Thursday, runs until Sunday at 1pm PT. The entire game is playable during the weekend, with no limitations. For any players who want to buy the game after the weekend ends, Bethesda is offering a 50 percent off deal on Special Edition until Sept. 19.

Meanwhile, Xbox One users with an Xbox Live Gold account can also play Skyrim Special Edition for free over the weekend. For Xbox players, their free trial lasts until 11:59pm PT on Sunday. Afterwards, players can pick up Skyrim Special Edition for $29.99 on the Xbox store until Sept. 18.

Skyrim Special Edition is a remastered release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the latest installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series. The game features improved visuals and previously released DLC for players. Skyrim Special Edition launched on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 to critical acclaim in Oct. 2016.
