Shin Megami Tensei V officially unveiled for Nintendo Switch
Shin Megami Tensei V is officially on its way, Atlus revealed today via a livestream. Despite having originally been teased back in January during the Nintendo Switch reveal presentation, we’ve heard hide nor hair of the Switch title, but now we’ve gotten our first glimpse at the upcoming game.
The trailer isn’t exactly the most informative video clip it could have been, but we do get to see how the game will look beyond the demon artwork previously teased during the Switch announcement. A modern Tokyo train station is showcased in addition to some bloody carnage and demons hitting the city. What appear to be male and female characters are shown in danger as the demons advance, and the clip cuts to a title reveal.
Shin Megami Tensei V marks the first numbered game in the long-running Shin Megami Tensei series since Shin Megami Tensei IV on 3DS, so this is a big deal for fans. The Persona games, for the uninitiated, are a spinoff of this venerable role-playing series, so if you enjoyed what Persona 5 had to offer, you’ll no doubt want to jump on the Shin Megami Tensei train from here. There's a big, beautiful world of "MegaTen" games out there, as fans refer to them, so there'll be a lot of exploration to do.
This will be the Switch debut for the series, although unfortunately there’s been no release date announced for the game thus far. We’ll have to wait and see what becomes of the Switch’s first Shin Megami Tensei title. Hopefully there are still plenty of Jack Frost demons around in it. That’s truly something to give a “hee-ho” about.
