Have you ever felt like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is missing something? Maybe something misshapen and blue?
Rejoice, because that very blue something is now available in Breath of the Wild, albeit through a rigorous modding process that really isn’t worth the time to get going. To be clear, “Sanic,” or the bizarre, noodly-limbed meme-tastic version of Sonic the Hedgehog, has been modded into the excellent Switch game, replacing Link himself.
Thanks to modder Hefty, you can invite Sanic into your own game if you want to take the time to do it, but there are plenty of steps involved that require you to emulate the game. That’s not something you’ll want to get into if you want to stay legal, but it’s possible to recreate the effect yourself.
It’s pretty hilarious, since Sanic’s skinny blue arms and legs look as though they can barely support his weight. It’s even better when you equip Sanic with boots or other items meant for Link, because the result is absolutely ludicrous. Words can’t do the effect justice. You really just need to see it for yourself.
The 3D-rendered Sanic can do everything Link can, but funnier. The video shows off what happens when you equip him with the Hylian Shield and other items. He then zooms off across the Hylian countryside with a corrupted, terrible version of Sonic the Hedgehog music playing in the background. He’s gotta go fast, you know.
You can check out the mod here if you’re interested in giving it a try.
