Pokémon 2018 World Championship details have been revealed
The Pokémon company has introduced the new rules for their 2018 World Championships, when Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon finally make their competitive debut.
This year, the format has been updated to give players a chance to try new strategies and take advantage of the mechanics in the new games. Currently, players still play on Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon before transitioning to the new games on Jan. 1, 2018.
Players this year will take part in double battles, and they can use any Pokémon from the National Pokédex. In recent years, only Alola Pokémon, which were the newest Pokémon in the game, could take part in competitive play.
There are some restrictions, however. Only Pokémon catchable in the game will be allowed to be played, so mythical and some legendary Pokémon are banned, including Ash-Greninja.
Mega Evolution will also be making a return this year after being banned previously, letting players mix-and-match to fit their own personal strategies.
The entire document for upcoming trainers is available on Pokémon's rules and resources page. Players will need to understand these rules quickly in order to prove they are the very best, like no one ever was.
