MLG.tv to expand; collaborates with Facebook
May 12, 2016 -- Today at the IAB Digital Content NewFronts 2016, Activision-Blizzard announced the expansion of MLG.tv as a streaming network for eSports titles. In their press release Activision-Blizzard states that this announcement includes “the launch of new content, broadcast experiences and distribution partnerships for its MLG.tv streaming platform”.
Among the features and content announced is the Enhanced Viewing Experience (EVE), “a High-Definition video stream with built-in algorithmic system that provides viewers with match statistics, up-to-the-minute leaderboards and situational insights based on the competition they are watching.”
Veteran MLG play-by-play commentator and former professional player Chris Puckett was also introduced at the digital network’s host, highlighting his role “produc[ing] up-to-the-minute premium highlights, interviews and news segments” on the daily eSports Report.
According to the press release, Activision Blizzard Media Networks will launch this content during the MLG Anaheim Open, a Call of Duty: Black Ops III tournament on June 10-12. This tournament will also mark a “deeper collaboration with Facebook”, who will be offering “a growing suite of VOD and live streaming products”.
In a Reddit post, Activision-Blizzard Senior Director of League Operations and Events, Adam Apicella has confirmed that MLG Anaheim with also be broadcast on Twitch.
