Legendary Pokémon are officially live in Pokémon Go
The wait is finally over—legendary Pokémon are now available to catch in Pokémon Go.
Lugia and Articuno are the first two legendary Pokémon to be included in the game, with more set to follow, including Mew, Mewtwo, Zapdos, and Moltres. There has been no mention of Raikou, Suicune, Entei, or Ho-Oh as of yet, which are four popular legendary Pokémon from the Johto region.
These Pokémon can only be caught through the game's raid function, tasking players to battle powerful Pokémon in large groups in order to unlock them in their Pokédex.
The legendary Pokémon were unlocked as a part of a series of challenges completed by the community at Pokémon Go Fest on July 22, which had a few problems at the start of the day. Trainers banded together to catch millions of Pokémon during the challenge window and unlocked the two legendary bird Pokémon, as well as a host of rewards that will last until 8pm ET on July 24.
This means it’s time for Pokémon Go trainers to get out there and link up with friends in order to get their first legendary Pokémon.
