LawBreakers gets a free weekend in an attempt to raise its falling player count
Boss Key Productions' LawBreakers has been suffering from poor player counts over the last few weeks, but it's possible a weekend of free access will bolster these numbers.
LawBreakers is hosting its first free weekend promotion on Steam starting this Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10am PT. From then until Oct. 2, you can download the game and play it for free to your heart's content. If by the end of the free weekend you want to keep playing, you can purchase the game for 25 percent off its normal price, which makes it just $22.49.
Boss Key released an interesting trailer showing off some of LawBreakers' highlights spliced with vintage police officer training footage to kitschy effect. Boss Key hopes this promotion will attract players who want to keep playing after the free weekend is over—and to help improve dismal numbers, such as an average of 178 players in the last 30 days, according to SteamCharts.
If you slept on LawBreakers but find it intriguing, know that it's a competent and exciting arena shooter with plenty of verticality and frenetic combat. While games like Overwatch are obviously the cream of the crop, there are characters bursting with personality and unique playstyles in LawBreakers, along with plenty of loot to collect.
With mobility, speed, and a wide range of weapons, LawBreakers offers an interesting change of pace if you find yourself mired in the sameness of being a Mercy or McCree main. You might decide you want to rise over the competition (literally) with Maverick or another high-flying hero. At any rate, this game is worth trying for free over the weekend.
