GTA Online has a “festive surprise” for fans. Literally, that’s what it’s called. The online portion of Grand Theft Auto V has just pushed its winter event live, and the Festive Surprise brings a Christmas tree to all in-game apartments as well as an enormous one right smack-dab in the middle of Los Santos. And snow! Snow everywhere, at random. You can even make snowballs and throw them at other players with it. The holidays are here, after all.
First off, yes, there are special holiday-themed costumes you can deck yourself out with when running around launching fireworks and beating up your enemies. The Elf mask, Mirthful Gingerbread Hockey mask, and Reindeer Bodysuit is up for grabs, as well as a Krampus mask if you really just want to scare everyone off.
If you’re not really interested in festive decorations or snowball fights, Rockstar is giving out a free gift every day that you log into the game, though exactly what that is hasn’t been announced just yet. You can bet it’ll probably be something worth at least logging in for each day, though, even if you’re just checking out the new Adversary Mode, Occupy, which lets up to 16 players duke it out across six different maps, awarding cash and double RP all the way through Jan. 8.
You can cruise around the streets with the Ubermacht Sentinel Classic with all that extra cash as well, if you so choose. To that end, there are several holiday sales going on, with select properties, vehicles, and other goodies up to 30% off. There’s plenty to discover with this year’s Festive Surprise celebration, so if you’re feeling up to getting into the holiday spirit, you can do so starting today in GTA Online.
