There are hundreds of unique Pokémon for trainers to find and capture throughout the world of Pokémon Go.
Pokémon like Pidgey and Taillow are common and can be found with ease while creatures such as Charmander and Totodile are harder to find, but not impossible to catch. There is one pocket monster, however, in Pokémon Go that is an absolute nightmare to look for: Ditto.
Since the introduction of the in-game mission mode, Research Tasks, in March, trainers have been forced to scour the globe in search of Ditto in order to have a chance to obtain Mew, the Kanto Mythical Pokémon.
When a player reaches the fifth tier of the Mew quest-line, players need to Catch Ditto, make 20 great throws, and catch ten Ghost-type Pokémon. While the last two missions are easy and obtainable over time, the only way a player can find and capture Ditto is down to luck.
Ditto will never appear on the world map in-game because it is always disguising itself as one of many Pokémon out in the wild, making it impossible to tell if the creature you are trying to capture is that Pokémon, or a Ditto in disguise.
The only way to capture a Ditto is to regularly capture some of Pokémon Go’s most common Pokemon and pray it morphs into a Ditto after a successful capture. The Pokémon that Ditto could be disguising itself as are:
Kanto (Gen 1)
Johto (Gen 2)
Hoenn (Gen 3)
If you successfully catch a disguised Ditto, an “Oh?” message should appear straight after capturing the Pokémon. Ditto will then reveal itself to you in an animation shortly afterwards.
So if you want a Ditto, get hunting for the Pokémon listed above.
