Dissidia Final Fantasy NT may be launching this January, but that hasn’t stopped Square Enix from giving would-be buyers a glimpse at what’s coming when the game drops in the form of an open beta, just in time for some holiday fighting fun.

Square Enix has announced an open beta for North America and Europe beginning Dec. 23 and running through Jan. 7. Unfortunately aside from the starting and end dates for the upcoming trial period for the game, there aren’t any additional details about the beta just yet, such as which fighters will be available, or what kind of modes will be open for players.

Japanese beta participants will get to try out the Class Match mode in either Solo or Party variants, which allows 3v3 party battles. Rush Battle will also be available, which is a single-player mode that allows you to play through 3v3 party battles against bots. Story mode will also be open to try out, including the Customize menus (self explanatory, offering a glut of different customization options ripe for the testing).

It’s likely the North American and European beta will feature the same modes up for grabs, but it’s unclear how many fighters out of the 28 launch roster will be available for play. That’s one of the greatest draws for the game in general, especially given fans’ proclivities to play as their favorite Final Fantasy characters.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is due out on PlayStation 4 Jan. 30 in North America and Europe.
