Destiny 2 is the biggest console launch game of 2017 so far, according to Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg.

Activision touted Destiny 2's early success in a press release a little more than a week after the game's launch. While the company did not reveal any specific numbers, it did claim that the game broke a record for franchise pre-orders, as well as set a new high for day-one performance on the PlayStation Store.

"Destiny 2 is off to a strong start as the #1 console gaming launch week of the year to date," Hirshberg said. "With the PC version yet to ship, Destiny 2 sets the stage for being one of the biggest video game entertainment events of the year.”

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons also confirmed that the game has seen over one million concurrent players on the game for every day over the past eight days.

“We hit some great milestones this week with our community," Parson said. “We are blown away that we’ve had eight days in a row in Destiny 2 where we’ve seen more than one million concurrent players grace our worlds. It’s equal parts inspiring and humbling, and we’re looking forward to showing everyone what’s coming next!”

Activision also touted the success of Destiny 2 on Twitch, as the game skyrocketed to the number one position on the game-streaming web site this week when the Leviathan Raid went live.

Destiny 2 will release on the PC on Oct. 24, where it will reach an even larger audience than ever before.
