Blizzard Entertainment has revealed new social features in testing for the Battle.net desktop app, including the long-requested option to appear offline.

This option allows players to show themselves as offline to their friends while remaining connected to Battle.net, so they can "game away without distraction." In games like World of Warcraft, though, in-game friends will still see that your character has come online in game chat. Plus, you can now message an offline friend and it will be available for them when they return online.

The star of the new update, which is now in beta, is the new Social tab. There you will find a "one-stop-shop for managing all your various social interactions." From there, you can create groups and chats to better team up and communicate with various people from your friends list.

Groups offer various text and voice channels, and people can appoint administrators to help manage things like memberships, invite links, and more. Chats work much the same way, where you can add multiple friends to one chat window.

The beta also offers profile customization, including the ability to add a custom avatar. Right now, the avatars feature characters from Blizzard games like Overwatch, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and even Bungie's Destiny 2, which will become available on Battle.net later this month. Players can also add links and a short bio.

To join the beta, simply launch Battle.net and go to Settings. There will be a tab labeled Beta, where you can opt in to the beta and download the newest version of the launcher.
