Leak suggests Bethesda may be working on Game of Thrones title
Bethesda may be heading to Westeros and Essos soon. A Target page hints that the publisher could be working on a Game of Thrones video game, and an interview with Todd Howard implies that just may be the case.
On the Target store page, a title called "Bethesda: Game of Thrones" is listed under the "Featured Brands" section. Nothing else is listed about the game on the website, as the page is otherwise blank.
As it stands, it's unclear if Bethesda: Game of Thrones is a console release, a mobile game, a digital-only title, or something else altogether. Fans are uncertain if the game will be developed by Bethesda or simply published by the company. And it's not clear if the game is even real at all. The page's name and directory could be a typo on Target's part, or it may be a Game of Thrones project unrelated to Bethesda Softworks altogether.
But there's one hint out there that Bethesda may be working on a Game of Thrones title. Todd Howard previously announced that Bethesda was working on two major projects, which he called "different" and "bigger than anything we've ever done." In an interview with Rolling Stone's Glixel, Howard hinted in February that some new titles were on the way.
"We have two larger projects that are more classically the scale of what we do, but even bigger," Howard said. "I can't talk a lot about them, but I can say that they're bigger than anything we've ever done. They're a bit different, but definitely in the wheelhouse that people are used to from us."
Seeing how Game of Thrones' world is massive, and Bethesda largely doesn't work as a publisher for outside licenses, Howard may have been hinting to a Game of Thrones release. Plus, if Skyrim is any indicator, the series' setting is perfect for Bethesda. But until Bethesda makes an official announcement, it remains unclear if a title is on the way or not. Fans will just have to wait as season eight lingers in the distance.
