A bunch of professional Overwatch players want to educate us plebs
A bunch of Overwatch pros want to help regular players get better at the game.
Led by Cloud9 player Lucas "Mendokusaii" Håkansson, Team Välfärd is an educational project that aims to give insight into professional Overwatch. Former Fnatic player Oliver "Vonethil" Lager, former Misfits player Kalle "Zave" Nilsson, inactive Cloud9 player Ruben "ryb" Ljungdahl, free agent Gustaf "kangakanga" Leufstedt, and Twitch streamer Overpowered make up the rest of the team.
Each player will stream their particular point-of-view with commentary. An additional stream with an overhead view will also be available. The team plans to stream all their scrims, opening up the professional Overwatch thought process to the general public. It's a very unique insight that Overwatch fans don't generally receive.
"Overwatch is a very difficult game and it's very hard to understand unless you really know what's going on," Mendokusaii told Dot Esports. "My objective with building the team is educating fans on how competitive, professional Overwatch works in order to be able to build more interest for the competitive scene."
This includes players who want to go professional, as well as viewers and fans who simply want to enjoy watching Overwatch at a higher level.
Team Välfärd intends on participating in tournaments, too. Any prize money won by the team will be rerouted back into the European Overwatch scene, keeping in line with the goal of improving competitive Overwatch as a whole.
A schedule hasn't been set just yet, but if they can keep in line with streaming all their scrims, it sounds like a lot of content will be created by Team Välfärd. You can find all the educational content on the players' individual Twitch streams, and eventually on YouTube.
