ESL to host Overwatch competition at gamescom
This will be the largest prize pool for the top eight teams of an Overwatch tournament yet and it comes only a few months after the game’s release. This event will also be the first international Overwatch tournament to take place.
In ESL’s post by Philipp Saedler, it was stated that there will be open qualifiers that will begin on June 27 through ESL Play. After, there will be regional qualifiers followed by a final qualifier to find the top eight teams that will be sent to Cologne, travels costs covered by ESL.
ESL has not announced its streaming partners yet, but you can most likely catch this tournament on the organization’s Overwatch-dedicated Twitch channel. In a tweet, Saedler also said that more details on the structure of the tournament should come out next week.
Gamescom is the largest gaming expo globally and takes place in Cologne, Germany. It is open to all, unlike the industry-only Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
If you would like to play in Overwatch Atlantic Showdown, you will probably want to monitor ESL Overwatch on Twitter and Facebook. It seems as if the tournament isn’t listed yet on ESL Play, but it would probably be a good idea to sign up there and form a team.
