MaLeK to replace RpK on Envy for the rest of the ELEAGUE Major due to illness

The French star was playing sick in the first three days of the Major.

Team Envy’s Cédric “RpK” Guipouy will be sitting out for the rest of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston due to illness.

RpK will be replaced by the team’s coach, Damien “maLeK” Marcel, on Envy’s five-man roster for the rest of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston. His sickness was so severe that he was rushed to the hospital, according to his teammate Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom.

Unfortunately for Envy, they’ll have to play with maLeK in the following stages of the Major if they advance to the New Legends stage, according to ELEAGUE’s rulebook.

The rules state that teams cannot make any lineup changes during the tournament. The only exception is to swap in the team’s coach for an active player—but that is a one-time only permanent move. The switch can’t be reversed. So for the rest of the Major, RpK will technically be Envy’s coach.

“RpK is really sick right now…he can’t even walk,” ScreaM said in an interview with HLTV yesterday. “He had a really hard time [playing].” Despite his illness, the French star still managed to put up good numbers in the team’s win over Flash Gaming in day three of the New Challengers stage. Envy sits at a 1-2 record going into day four of the Major.

Envy’s will play with maLeK later today at 4:15pm ET in their elimination match versus Quantum Bellator Fire. The team will need to win out in their final two matches, or finish 2-3 and survive a tiebreaker playoff for the final spot vacated by 100 Thieves.
