Over the past few days, you might have noticed that a few pro players on streams have reached something online called VIP Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The mode has caught players off guard, with some believing it’s a mode that exists after Elite Smash Battles—but it’s actually something we’re already aware of.
The mode is basically the Japanese equivalent of Elite Smash Battles and it’s unlocked online after you reach a certain amount of GSP points in quick play matches. There’s no difference between VIP Smash and Elite Smash—the mode is literally just what the Japanese version of Elite Smash Battles is called.
To reach it, just like Elite Smash Battles, you need to rank up a character to get a large enough GSP score to access the mode. What that GSP score is, however, changes over time as more players pick up and play the game.
If you don’t have the Japanese version of the game, there’s no way to unlock this mode. There’s also no difference in matchmaking since Elite and VIP players will be matchmade together as long as they’re in a similar distance to each other online.
