Team Liquid will be moving star AD carry Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin to the mid lane, while Jung “Youngbin” Young-bin will be the team’s new starting AD carry, according to a report from ESPN’s Jacob Wolf. This move does not comes as a surprise, as the organization has been planning on making changes to its League of Legends roster before the rosters lock.
Before the IEM World Championship, it was announced that Team Liquid planned on trying out new players and possibly swapping the roles of some of their existing players over the break. At the time, there were rumors abound that Liquid would be moving Piglet to the mid lane, and this report practically confirms it.
Liquid is making a change because the team is at the bottom of the table in the North American League Championship Series. Before the split started, Liquid had two players for the mid lane, Austin “Link” Shin and Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer, and planned on having the two players split time in the starting position.
Goldenglue ended up playing all of the games for Liquid and we have not seen Link this split. Just weeks ago, it was officially announced the Goldenglue would be the team’s only starter in the mid lane.
Piglet has been the Team Liquid AD carry since the start of 2015, though he has occasionally taken on a substitute role or moved to the Team Liquid Academy team. At times, Piglet has appeared to be back at the caliber of play he was capable of in Season 3, when he won the World Championship with SK Telecom T1 K, but he has been inconsistent and has been unable to lead Liquid to any serious success.
Youngbin joins the team from University of California-Irvine, having previously been a part of the Team Liquid Academy roster. He will most likely not be able to compete for his college team anymore due to the fact he will be playing in the LCS.
Liquid’s players have an uphill battle ahead of them, as they have been able to win only two series so far, more than halfway through the split.
