Earlier in today’s livestream launch event for Gears of War 4, it was announced that a Gears of War film adaption was currently in the works under Universal Pictures. Rod Ferguson, studio head of the game developers, The Coalition, finally confirmed a long-standing rumor of a movie in the works, calling it “the next logical step.”
Whether or not the screenplay will be a straightforward adaptation of the video game to film is still unknown. Ferguson expressed feelings of not wanting to sacrifice the quality of the movie in an attempt to remain faithful to the game. “I think you have to let the movies be the movies,” Fergusson said.
As one of Xbox’s flagship IP’s, a Gears of War movie is a welcomed announcement for hardcore fans that first got their feet wet nearly 10 years ago on “Emergence Day.” Currently, there’s no announced timetable for the release, but you won’t have to wait long to get into the Gears action, as Gears of War 4 will be released on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows Oct. 11.
