Fortnite generated $296 million in revenue across all platforms in April

The game is a money-printing machine.

Players can’t get enough of the cosmetic microtransactions in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Revenue from the popular title reached a whopping $296 million in April, according to a new report by SuperData.

That monumental number is up from $223 million in March, marking a huge increase in revenue. A large part of the spending most likely came from the season four Battle Pass, which released at the beginning of the month, offering 100 tiers of unlocks for a price of a little less than $10.

SuperData’s report also said that Fortnite once again broke the record for most additional content revenue in a single month by a console game. It’s hugely popular on consoles, too—it was the most-played console game in April, ahead of games like God of War, FIFA 18, Call of Duty WWII, and Far Cry 5.

Fortnite was the fifth most-played game on PC, by comparison, behind League of Legends, Dungeon Fighter Online, Crossfire, and Fantasy Westward Journey Online II. It placed ahead of games like World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which was in ninth place.

Thanks to games like Fortnite, worldwide digital spending was up 23 percent in April. Consumers spent $9.09 billion on digital games across console, PC, and mobile—up from $7.42 billion in the prior year. SuperData said the biggest growth came from console and mobile, where Fortnite is thriving.

The amazing thing about Fortnite’s success so far, which has ballooned a lot since the mobile version released, is that it is only available on iOS thus far. Epic Games has said that the Android version is coming some time this summer, at which point revenue will undoubtedly spike once again.
