How to get A Necessary Sacrifice achievement in Marvel Rivals

Besides showstopper Emma Frost and the beautiful Krakoa map, Marvel Rivals season two has added multiple new achievements to encourage exploration. But not all these achievements are as cryptic as the one that requires you to make “A Necessary Sacrifice.” Here’s what it means and how to complete it.

A Necessary Sacrifice is a basic Chronoverse Saga achievement in Marvel Rivals. Completing it will get you five achievement points, a small but valuable boost for the rewards bar. Since you’re here, you’re likely troubled by its vague description: “Attempt to destroy Cerebro to prevent Ultron from backing up his data in Krakoa.” While it’s clear that you need to complete the achievement on the new Krakoa map, how do we destroy Cerebro, and where is Ultron? Well, it’s not as complex as you may think.

A Necessary Sacrifice achievement in Marvel Rivals, explained

To unlock A Necessary Sacrifice and earn the reward, you have to trigger a special victory screen animation in Marvel Rivals.

While playing a match on Krakoa, you unlock different victory screens depending on your team. If you’re on Team A, you’ll witness Wolverine punch Ultron’s head off as the latter tries to grab onto the Cerebro. If you’re on Team B, you’ll see Emma Frost decapitate Ultron with her powerful kick.

To complete the Necessary Sacrifice achievement in Marvel Rivals, get the animation with Wolverine and Ultron and win the match. The one with Emma Frost is linked to the “Out of Service” achievement, which requires you to “stop Ultron from backing up his data to the Cerebro in Krakoa.” 

Unfortunately, you cannot choose teams when you queue for a match in Marvel Rivals. You’re randomly assigned one based on luck, so you can’t force the animation you want to appear. To make things worse, there’s no way to know which team you’re on because it’s a Domination map. All you can do is give your best to win every Krakoa match and hope for the animation you want to appear.

I haven’t been able to complete the achievement either, because I somehow land on Team B every time. And I lost the matches in the few opportunities I’ve had with Team A. That said, here’s what the animation should look like:

You need the Victory banner instead of Defeat to complete Necessary Sacrifice.

Thankfully, we can use the special Krakoa Quick Match mode in Marvel Rivals to avoid other maps and focus on the mission. But this mode will be removed in a few days, so make sure you complete the achievement as soon as possible before it becomes even more luck-driven.
