The Gust that is Qiao Gu - A Light from Within, Interview with Baek "Swift" Da-hoon
Qiao Gu's Jungler Baek "Swift" Da-hoon recently conducted an interview with Korean e-Sports fan site Inven!
Without further ado, here is Swift's interview!
Q. It's been quite a long time. Please introduce yourself to the readers!
Swift: Hello! I'm Qiao Gu's Jungler, Baek "Swift" Da-hoon. I think it's really been a long time since I was able to say hello. You haven't forgotten about me, right? (laughs)
Q. How are you doing in China?
Swift: I'll admit that my perception of China wasn't that great at first. Because of this, I had a lot of worries even before I left for China. But now that I'm actually here, I think that it's pretty nice. I can actually eat the food, and most of all, I really like my teammates so I'm faring pretty well so far.
Q. You chose to join Qiao Gu, who was in the LSPL at the time. Was there a special reason behind your decision?
Swift: There was a huge amount of strain I felt due to the fact that I would have to live in a foreign place alone. I felt that it would be really difficult. So, I was looking for teams along with Coach Lee "Hiro" Woo-seok, who was already working for a Chinese team at the time. After much deliberation and thinking between the two of us, we chose QG, an LSPL team (at the time).
Q. It was surprising that a prominent player suddenly left to join a LSPL team in China. We're curious if playing in the Secondary League was difficult for you.
Swift: It may have been a Secondary League team, but the conditions were great. And besides, if we succeeded in promoting to the main league, I thought it would be a better way to improve than playing on a main league team to begin with. I didn't really think much of the fact that it was a team in the Secondary League.
Q. Qiao Gu was able to stand on the Finals stage just one season after promoting into the main league. How are you feeling?
Swift: It's still really novel for me. The coaching staff and my teammates are all great and very nice. Because of this, I think that we all synchronized very naturally and was able to put up these results. I also think that because we didn't become careless just because we had made it to the main league and put in a lot of effort, we were able to make it to the Finals.
Q. Even within China, Qiao Gu is lauded for having superb skills?
Swift: Well, I put in immense amounts of effort because I had come to China with a resolution -- choosing to play in China in and of itself was a huge decision that inevitably resulted in such resolutions. I think it's huge that my teammates were also doing well. The 'Jungle' position is such so that even if you do well, you can't really stand out. Since our teamwork fits together so well, I think they are also looking favorably upon my personal plays.
Q. Is there a Jungler who you see as a rival or role-model within China?
Swift: When I was a pro player in Korea, I thought Choi "DanDy" In-gyu was really good. As for current Chinese junglers, well...I think they are all so good that it's hard to pick one to highlight in particular. Honestly, if I ever think that I am going to lose against someone, my plays start to become passive, so... I'm the type to always tell myself "I can win against everyone!" before I start a match.
Q. Worlds season is coming. We feel that you will be coveting the Summer Season title?
Swift: Even if we do win this Summer Split, it won't result in us getting the direct qualification to Worlds so it is a bit disappointing. However, it is definitely a huge honor for me to step foot on such a big Finals stage! I really want to win and make it a great memory.
Q. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy preparations for the Finals to do this interview! Any last messages for fans?
Swift: There are still a lot of fans in Korea who remember me from my days there and cheer for me still! I am very thankful. I will try very hard to win as well as make it to the World Championship, so please continue cheering for us!
