TES breeze past G2, ending Western hopes at Worlds 2025

End of the road.

Top Esports secured a decisive 3-1 victory over G2 Esports at the 2025 League of Legends World Championship, ending the European team’s run and leaving only Eastern powerhouses from China and Korea in contention for the Summoner’s Cup.

G2 started their Worlds 2025 run with a loss against Top Esports before bouncing back with wins against teams like FlyQuest to qualify for the Knockouts. They fell short again to TES today, but this time in a best-of-five series.

The series started with a dominating performance from Creme’s Akali, and TES secured game one with relative ease. G2 bounced back quickly in the next match with creative and chaotic picks like Dr Mundo and Lucian to equalize the series. But TES’s poke-heavy comp with 369’s iconic Aatrox made it easy for the LPL squad to win almost every teamfight and bring the series to match point.

While G2 tried to shift back to their chaotic style with Hans Sama’s proven Draven pick, TES slowed down the pace drastically, keeping them in the match. Once the Chinese reached their power spikes, they secured objectives and eliminated G2 from the tournament.

Despite flashes of brilliance from Caps, G2’s signature creativity wasn’t enough to overcome TES’s calm and calculated approach. Earlier in the event LTAN caster Isaac “Azael” Cummings-Bentley commented that the mid lane was G2’s strong suit but said, according to LoLNow, that “I think the top laners in Europe are extremely weak”.

In the post-match interview, G2’s rookie jungler Skewmond said he was not decisive enough against TES, admitting he was “outclassed” by the opponent. He also pointed out that other than game four, the drafts were “hard to play.”

Top Esports face the winner of the match between T1 and Anybody’s Legend on Oct. 31, 2025, in the Worlds semifinals.
