After back-to-back heartbreaks at MSI 2025 and the Esports World Cup, T1’s star AD carry Gumayusi returned to Korea with unfinished business—and he’s already eyeing revenge against Gen.G.
“GEN has been undefeated this year after the LCK Cup, and their momentum is strong. We’ll face them three times in the remaining rounds, and I at least want to make sure they bleed once,” Gumayusi said during a livestream, already itching for a rematch.
He added that he personally wants to win badly, especially with so many fans attending. After repeated losses to Gen.G, he believes it’s finally time for revenge. Despite falling to Gen.G in every matchup this year, Gumayusi remains optimistic about taking down the team.
With two League tournaments still left in the season, the star ADC sees a chance for T1 to even the score. HLE and Gen.G have each claimed two titles so far, and if T1 can take the remaining two, i.e, Worlds 2025 and LCK Summer Split, Gumayusi believes it would balance things out.
He regrets T1’s performance in EWC 2025 and MSI 2025 was particularly disappointing because the team came so close to lifting the trophy. Gumayusi said it would’ve been easier to accept if they had bowed out earlier, but losing after getting that close made it sting even more. He added that MSI felt like their “first real chance at a title this year,” especially after missing out on Spring and seeing limited playtime during the LCK Cup.
Earlier in the year, Gumayusi shared stage time with Shin “Smash” Geum-jae during the LCK Cup, making his playtime limited. But things quickly changed after T1 CEO Joe Marsh stepped in to back the legendary AD carry, helping him get his spot as the team’s regular starter.
Looking back on the demanding schedule, Gumayusi admitted the year had taken a toll. He said the routine is “exhausting” and somehow feels more intense with each passing season. During MSI, he experienced physical fatigue like never before: “My eyes were bloodshot every morning, and my shoulders were constantly tense. It was the first time since my trainee days that I really felt, wow, I’m so exhausted,” he explained.
Though the year had been physically demanding, he believes his experience helped him cope, and he stood firm that performance must remain consistent regardless of fatigue.
Gen.G have been phenomenal this year, completing a flawless 18-0 run in the LCK and not dropping a single series at MSI 2025 or the Esports World Cup. They successfully defended their MSI title and secured their first-ever EWC trophy, solidifying their dominance on the international and domestic stages.
T1’s first match in LCK rounds 3-5 is against Gen.G today, making it the perfect chance for revenge and redemption ahead of Worlds 2025.
