Copenhagen Wolves benches Soren, brings in Caedrel for playoffs
Copenhagen Wolves has benched its mid laner for next week's playoff series, replacing him with an up-and-coming Challenger mid laner from the U.K.
The Wolves dismissed Danish mid laner Søren "Soren" Holdt Frederiksen in favor of Renegades: Banditos mid laner Marc "Caedrel" Robert Lamont, sources close to the team and players tell the Daily Dot. Frederiksen is a nearly two year-veteran of the team.
Lamont has already begun scrimmaging with the Wolves privately, and a loan for the player has been approved by Renegades for next week’s series versus Millenium and, if they advance, the remainder of the playoffs.
The reasons for benching Frederiksen aren't clear. The player has been an integral part of the Wolves team since July 2014, when he replaced former mid laner Viktor “cowTard” Stymne. He was also the only Copenhagen Wolves team member to remain with the team after it was relegated from the League Championship Series (LCS) last summer.
The new Challenger team, in fact, was built around Frederiksen, brining in LCS veterans Mike “Wickd” Petersen and Kristoffer "P1noy" Albao Lund Pedersen, as well as two rookies Admir “Trowen” Spahic and Risto “SirNukesAlot” Luuri. Wolves also recently benched Spahic, bringing in former Giants Gaming jungler Tri “k0u” Tin Lam to replace him.
Lamont, however, has never played in the Challenger Series. Renegades: Banditos failed to qualify after losing to Millenium in the qualifier for the series, though the team has competed in multiple other amateur tournaments, including this week in the ESL UK Premiership tournament.
Now Lamont and the Wolves will look to perform against one of Europe’s best Challenger teams, Millenium, next Wednesday in Berlin.
