SK Gaming reportedly building LEC superteam in major off-season overhaul

After a rough 2025 campaign, SK Gaming is reportedly looking to turn a fresh page by building what many are calling a superteam for the 2026 LEC season.

According to a report by Sheep Esports, SK is finalising a roster consisting of some of the LEC’s most established names, including former G2 Esports stars Martin “Wunder” Hansen and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. This marks a reunion of two players who shared success by winning the MSI 2019 title.

While Mikyx left Fnatic to join SK Gaming, Wunder played as the top laner for Team Heretics in 2024, and he is joining the LEC again after a year’s hiatus. Sheep Esports also confirmed that Adam “LIDER” Ilyasov is joining the roster in the mid lane, bringing his aggressive playstyle back to the LEC after playing with Jankos and Perkz last year at The Ruddy Sack.

Inconsistent performances and a lack of playoff success have marked the 2025 season for SK Gaming. The team lost multiple matches and showed little improvement in performance, so a major overhaul was on the cards. Although the team was known for its developmental approach, which favored proven talent to nurture rookies and give them a platform, there seems to have been a shift in the organisation that is now desperately searching for results. 

With competition in the LEC intensifying, the organisation seems determined to re-establish itself among Europe’s elite by betting on experience and leadership. If confirmed, the new lineup would be one of the most recognisable and decorated rosters SK has ever fielded.

Duncan “Skeanz” Marquet is expected to remain with the team as jungler following a contract extension, providing some continuity amid sweeping changes. The only position still shrouded in mystery is the AD carry, with no official word yet on who will round out the lineup.

Building a superteam comes with risks. Historically, whether it’s G2 Esports or Team Vitality, superteams have rarely brought results. Integrating multiple veteran players with distinct playstyles could take time, but the synergy between existing team members will play a key part in settling the squad and deliver results. 

SK Gaming hasn’t officially announced any of these players, so take it with a grain of salt. However, should these signings materialise, SK Gaming’s 2026 LEC campaign could mark a dramatic return to relevance or prove a costly experiment in chasing glory.
