Jayce and Galio are two of the most prominent champions in the current state of competitive League of Legends. At last week’s Mid-Season Invitational, Jayce had a win rate of 67 percent, while Galio was picked 40 times. In the wake of their dominance, Riot has implemented a set of nerfs on the League Public Beta Environment (PBE).

They’re far from being the strongest champions, especially in solo queue, but their presence in competitive play is overwhelming. Galio and Jayce are consistently seen throughout each professional league and they pose a threat to any team composition. Jayce is a strong top lane carry, while Galio’s utility and pick potential makes for an overtuned support.

To combat this, Jayce’s Shock Blast (Cannon Q) has been targeted. Its damage numbers have been increased, but its overall base attack damage has been reduced. This should help slightly balance Jayce without taking away his reliability as a top lane pick.

Shock Blast (Cannon Q)

  • Damage increased from 65/110/155/200/245 (+120 percent bAD) to 70/115/160/205/250 (+100 percent bAD)

The nerfs to Galio are more damning, however. The damage on both his Shield of Durand (W) and Justice Punch (E) has been reduced. This means he’ll still be a well-rounded late game support, but his early game will be less impactful. He’ll no longer be able to easily chunk down his lane opponents. Instead, Galio will have to focus on a more passive laning phase.

Shield of Durand (W)

  • Minimum damage lowered from 20/30/40/50/60 (+20 percent AP) to 10/20/30/40/50 (+30 percent AP).
  • Maximum damage lowered from 60/90/120/150/180 (+60 percent AP) to 30/60/90/120/150 (+90 percent AP).

Justice Punch (E)

  • Damage lowered from 100/135/170/205/240 to 80/120/160/200/240.

Overall, the nerfs to these two champions should be healthy for the metagame. Jayce and Galio will still be contested picks in competitive play, but they’ll no longer be too much of a threat.
