Riot Plans to Host a New International Tournament

What kind of tournament does Riot plan to add to their yearly cycle?

Riot is planning to hold a new international tournament sometime during the summer split in mid-July, after MSI and before Worlds, according to Yahoo Esports.

“We are still considering what kind of event would be the most interesting for everyone,” Rioter Ye Qiang said. “For example, can we do a World Cup-type tournament? We hope LoL events can be more diversified, can satisfy our audience, and can give everyone a better player experience, so this is what we will target for the event this year in July. Wait and see.”

The exact format of the tournament is unknown at this time, however, I am all for a World Cup tournament, with teams based on countries. I really think this would be a fun idea that showcases the best players in the world, similar to the Overwatch World Cup. For now, though, we will just have to wait and see what Riot chooses to do.
