Quinn is now performing as a top-3 bot lane and top lane carry—here’s what happened

We'll let you take a guess. It rhymes with "lit smurfs."

Well, we never thought we’d say this, but Quinn is actually good now.

She’s been a decent top laner for a while thanks to being one of the role’s best high-damage early-game cheesers, but she’s been largely absent from the bot lane, which is her intended role as a marksman. Well, she’s doing just fine now as the third most successful bot lane carry, according to North American League of Legends stats site Champion.gg.

Not only that, but her top lane performance hasn’t suffered at all, as she’s number two up there. And in the jungle, although she isn’t winning more than every other champion, she’s still performing above-average.

So why is Quinn suddenly successful?

Well, we need to point out first that she isn’t successful by the League population at large. Only a few players above Platinum rank are actually playing her, as her play-rates usually coast around one percent at best. She’s suddenly working for those few players because of the recent and rapid decline of the game’s other marksmen.

Quinn’s biggest weakness as a marksman is the fact that she’s out-ranged and out-damaged by traditional crit-based marksmen later in a game. She can cheese early, sure, but she drops off pretty hard. With crit out of the picture for the time being, however, that playing field has been leveled. Not only does she not fall off as hard in comparison to other champions, but her biggest competition has been cut out of the game.

Her high damage bursts fit right in the bot lane, where scaling, sustained damage is a thing of the past. Games are also more one-sided than ever. It’s much more common to smash or be smashed than it is to duke it out in a 40 or 50-minute slugfest than it was only a few months ago. That being said, if you can scale fast and early and find a lead, it’s much easier to win the game.

So if you’re looking for a marksman that feels (sort of) like the marksmen that were recently kicked out of the meta, but one that actually feels like it fits into the game currently, Quinn is a solid choice. You can take her top, bot, jungle, or honestly wherever else you’d like. The current League meta is the wild west, and you can take whatever you want, wherever you want, and it won’t even be that weird.
