Last-place MVP secure a huge win over Samsung Galaxy

The race for first in the LCK has been blown wide open.

What’s been happening to the LCK’s best teams recently? First, SK Telecom T1 lose four series in a row, and now, Samsung Galaxy have fallen to MVP, who is currently in last place.

SSG looked on course to end the 2017 Summer Split as the LCK’s No. 1 team heading into the playoffs. With this loss to MVP, however, SSG have given Longzhu Gaming and KT Rolster a chance to tie for first place if they can secure a win in their next games.

MVP still have a lot of work to do though, if they have any hopes of avoiding the relegation tournament. They’re currently two wins behind ROX Tigers in seventh place and need to hope that the results go in their favor moving forward.

The first game in this series between SSG and MVP was a closely contested match. Four Barons were taken over the course of a 47 minute game, with MVP securing three of those crucial objectives—but the team could never find a path to victory.

MVP finally closed out the game at the end by using the Elder Dragon and Baron combo to pick off SSG and take down the Nexus.

SSG came back to life in the second game with a dominant display against MVP. The team took every main objective and strangled MVP’s lane pressure to secure an easy victory and tie up the series.

In the final game of the series, MVP dominated SSG by taking every single objective, leaving SSG to pick up the scraps. It was a strong performance from one of the LCK’s weaker sides that gave them a deserved victory over SSG.

Looking ahead, SSG will need to iron out the flaws in their matchups when the team face KT Rolster next on July 25. This match could decide who ends the Summer Split in the top spot in the LCK, and both teams will be gunning for victory.

MVP will face off against fellow relegation favorites, BBQ Olivers, on July 26. A win in this match would push MVP into seventh place with a shot at escaping the relegation tournament at the end of the season.
